About Eddy
Eddy is a full blood citizen of the Osage Nation. He and his wife Mattie reside on the original Red Eagle allotment north of Barnsdall on the Osage Reservation. They have three children and five grandchildren. His parents were Virginia Logan Red Eagle and Ed Red Eagle, Sr. Eddy graduated from Pawhuska High School and earned a Bachelor of Business Administration Degree from Northeastern State University in Tahlequah. He is currently employed as the Cultural Director for the Osage Nation.
Eddy and Mattie married right after high school and with their baby daughter Jeanna, they moved to Lawton where Eddy enrolled at Cameron College and Eddy played football. They eventually moved to Tahlequah where Eddy would finish his degree. Eddy is no stranger to hard work, supporting his family and commitment. Eddy worked his way through school and the three of them would travel with a pipeline crew during the summers with other friends and relatives. When Eddy graduated from Northeastern, he began work for Citgo at their Tulsa headquarters and he remained with the company for 30 years.
His experience at Citgo included Executive Operational Management, involving his expertise in finance, accounting, and logistics and planning units. His final duties with the company were as Senior Supply Coordinator for the western half of the United States. He was responsible for the daily coordination of product supply and logistics that would reach over 1,000 retail units and worth nearly $100 million per month. He was responsible for coordinating nearly a half-million barrels of oil into pipelines from the Gulf Coast valued at more than $12 million monthly . Eddy was heavily involved in planning, budgeting, legislative processes, contract negotiations, cost control analysis and work force empowerment. Eddy also served as the Northeastern United States Regional Supply Manager, Product Supply Exchange Manager for the entire U.S. and Transportation Accounting Manager while at Citgo.
During all those years Eddy never forgot his traditional Osage roots. He was reared in the Osage cultural traditions and spirituality and is a fluent speaker of the Osage language. He has served as Drumkeeper for the Pawhuska District of the Elonshka and served as Whipman for more than 20 years. His son Eli is a former Drumkeeper. Currently, he sits as one of the Advisors for the District.
Those who know Eddy know that he is a deeply religious man. He is a member of the Catholic Church and also a member of the Native American Church. The Red Eagle family has maintained their NAC roundhouse at the family farm for nearly 100 years. He has held several positions in the local NAC-Osage Chapter, as well as at the state level. Eddy was instrumental in the passage of the 1994 Amendment to the "American Indian Religious Freedom Act". He worked closely with U. S. Senator Daniel Inouye's staff in the research, development and drafting of this critical piece of legislation. Eddy also led the fight against an attempt in the Oklahoma Legislature that would have allowed state encroachment on Indian Lands and into our religious ceremonies. He coordinated an effort with other Oklahoma NAC leaders to establish communications and begin an educational effort with Oklahoma legislative leaders which led to the proposed legislation being killed before it reached the Oklahoma House floor.
Eddy has taken advantage of his retirement and put his experiences to good use, thereby benefiting the Osage Nation and the residents of our reservation. He is working with other Osage County leaders in the areas of tourism, economic development and the development of emergency trauma care for the entire Reservation, including air ambulance service. Eddy's business and personal friendships have enabled him to maintain an awareness of the issues that affect the Osage Nation, such as gaming, tobacco and other issues, including the continuing threats to the sovereign powers of our Native governments.
Eddy is one of those unique individuals who has based all of his contemporary business management skills on his traditional Osage background. He has the ability to talk to other leaders in the federal, state and local governments, highly successful people in business and other elected tribal leaders across the country.
Yet, at the same time, he is simply "Eddy" to all of his Osage people and all of his friends and neighbors.
